Atlantic City Boardwalk Comic Con

It wasn’t that long ago that comic book conventions were considered dorky and being called a nerd was a negative thing. But that has all changed. Maybe it was when Iron Man shocked the box office years ago or when Big Bang Theory dominated the Neilson ratings, but now being a “Nerd” has become cool! And this past weekend at the ACBC (Atlantic City Boardwalk Con) this couldn’t be more evident.

Celebrities and Famous Cosplayers in Attendance

Darnell Hicks and Jorge Vergara aka: The Party Nerdz, attended this gathering of comic book collectors, gamers, cosplayers, toy enthusiasts and nerds of all shapes and sizes. The turnout was great considering it was the first year Atlantic City held a ComicCon.

We met popular cosplayers such as Soni Balesta, Abby Darkstar and the D’Adra Sisters who were all decked out in mind blowing superhero costumes. Celebs also attended this event including Tom Cavanaugh (CWs the Flash) Verne Troyer (Mini-Me) & even Comic Book Men’s own Kevin Smith!

The Stan Lee Snub

However, the experience was somewhat changed as Stan Lee pulled out of his convention appearance a day before the show. With everyone’s anticipation to attend Lee’s events this mattered little to us but roaring groans could be heard when his absence was announced over the PA system.

With little notice we knew some loyal fans left stiffed and the promise of an exchange for what amounted to Stan Lee bucks didn’t sit very well with some people. The exhibit was excellent, and for us was far more interesting than a brief moment I may have gotten with the aged creator.

Comic Con Goes On

Even without the great Stan Lee, everywhere you turned there was something jaw dropping to look at. From professional photography, amazing comic book artwork, life sized superhero sculptures and collectibles worth more than what’s in Tony Stark’s bank account. It fulfilled every expectation for it being the first year of the event in Atlantic City.

ACBC was an awesome experience that will only grow bigger years come. With hollywood bringing more buzz than ever before and fans coming out in droves, we hope Comic Con makes it way back to Atlantic City next year as this year was a huge success.
