Most Well Known Sporting Venues In Philly

Philly sports fans have been some of the most passionate, dedicated and loyal sports fans in the entire country, in all sports. The recent sports stadiums and teams really mean a lot to the Philadelphia faithful. New stadiums have popped up around the city. There are decades of history, though. Oddly enough, it started with boat rowing more than 150 years ago and has progressed to all the successful professional sports teams of the 2000s, which include a Phillies’ World Series title and an Eagles’ Super Bowl appearance.

Citizens Bank Park

Citizens Bank Park (above) finally opened on April 3, 2004 after almost two years of construction and $458 million. It is home to the MLB Philadelphia Phillies franchise. It is one of the most beautiful parks in the United States. It is a great place for locals, friends and family to hang out and enjoy some baseball. It also holds other events such as the 2012 NHL Winter Classic.

The Linc

Lincoln Financial Field

Lincoln Financial Field, also known as “The Linc” by many, is the newest home for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and the Temple University Owls’ college football team. It is part of the large South Philadelphia Sports Complex, which is across the way from Citizens Bank Park. If you are a die-hard football fan rooting for the other team, watch out, it could get a bit rowdy. But if you are an Eagles fan, there is no place on Earth like it to watch a live football game with some of the most passionate fans in the world.

xfinity live

XFINITY Live

Once known as Philly Live! XFINITY Live has become one of the most popular spots to watch sports all throughout the city. People from all over Philadelphia come to enjoy the many bars and restaurants it has to offer. Getting tired of one bar, or maybe it’s just not your scene? Just go to another directly across the street and change it up. There is one thing for sure; you will not get bored while enjoying some Philly sports or just a night drinking in the city.

Wells Fargo Center

Wells Fargo Center

Wells Fargo Center originally opened in 1996 as the CoreStates Center and has since changed names multiple times. Wells Fargo Center is the home of the Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Flyers and Arena Football’s Philadelphia Soul. It is also in the same complex as XFINITY Live, Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park.

Rocky Steps

Rocky Steps

The seventy-two stone steps in front of the Philadelphia Museum Of Art, also known as “The Rocky Steps,” aren’t so much a historical sports venue of Philadelphia but a landmark. They have become one of the most well-known and most visited places in Philly by sports fans and tourists alike. The movie “Rocky,” in my eyes, has secured its place in sporting history as one of the greatest sports films of all time.

Boathouse Row

Boat House Row

Located on the east bank of the Schuylkill River, Boathouse Row is a historic boathouse location visited by many boat racing fans and tourists alike. It is made up of fifteen boathouses in a row, which house social clubs, rowing clubs and their racing shells. They all have been around for more than 100 years and some even for more than 150 years.
