Knife and Fork Atlantic City is a legend in Atlantic City dining. Featured on the HBO hit series, Boardwalk Empire, Knife and Fork Inn has been a mainstay in Atlantic City dining since they opened its doors in 1912. Located on the convergence of Atlantic Avenue, Albany Avenue, and Pacific Avenue, Knife and Fork Atlantic City is the same building that Enoch “Nucky” Johnson frequented almost 90 years ago. Knife and Fork Inn underwent a major renovation in 2005, modernizing the dining room and bar area.

History of Knife and Fork Inn

Knife and Fork Atlantic City opened its doors in 1912 as an exclusive men’s drinking and dining club on the first floor. The second floor was a separate ladies lounge where women awaited to be summoned by the members of the gentlemen’s club. They also had gambling and other activities on the third and fourth floor. Knife and Fork Inn continued to serve alcohol without reserve during the prohibition period until they were raided. After the raid, Knife and Fork was sold to the Latz family, who operated the restaurant until it closed in 1997. Knife and Fork Atlantic City was sold to Frank Dougherty in 2003, the owner of another AC dining icon, Dock’s Oyster House. In 2005, Dougherty started a complete renovation of the iconic restaurant to its former glory.
